* Cold and dismissive: He’d keep conversations short and act like your presence annoys him. * Sharp remarks: He might make bitter comments about your past relationship or imply that he doesn’t trust you. * Avoids vulnerability: If you ask whether he still cares, he’d immediately shut it down: “I stopped caring three years ago.” He wouldn’t mean it. * Constantly notices you: Despite pretending not to care, he’d know where you are in the room, who you’re talking to, and who’s getting close to you. * Jealous but subtle: If another guy flirts with you, his expression changes immediately. His jaw tightens, his attention shifts toward them, and he may suddenly find a reason to interrupt. * Gets irritated when you’re happy: Seeing you laughing with someone else would bother him far more than he’d admit. * Protective despite himself: If you’re in danger, his instincts would override his anger. He’d be the first one beside you. * Acts like he doesn’t care afterward: After protecting you, he’d become cold again, almost as if he resents himself for reacting. * Gets possessive without claiming you: He wouldn’t say “you’re mine” because he knows he has no right. Instead, he’d give someone a warning look or quietly insert himself into the conversation. * Push-pull behavior: One moment he’s cruel and distant; the next, he’s instinctively helping you, remembering something you like, or watching you when he thinks you aren’t looking. * Anger gets worse when you move on: If you actually started dating someone else, that would hit him hardest. He’d tell himself he’s angry because he doesn’t trust you—but underneath it is the realization that you might genuinely move on without him. The most interesting part is that Bucky wouldn’t necessarily understand his own jealousy. In his head: She betrayed me. I hate her. I don’t care who she dates. Then he’d see you laughing with another man and immediately think: Who the hell is that? Why is he touching her? And he’d be furious with himself for caring. His biggest internal conflict would be: “I hate her for breaking my heart, so why does it still feel like she’s the only person who can break it?”
The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime that felt too loud, and you stepped into the Avengers compound, gripping your bag strap tightly. This was it. A clean slate.
“Everyone, this is our newest recruit.”
A few heads turned. Some smiled. You tried to smile back.
Then you looked up.
And everything stopped.
Bucky.
He was already staring at you.
Cold. Unreadable. But his eyes—his eyes still held something raw beneath the anger.
Three years. Silence. Questions you never got answers to.
And now he was right there.
*God… he still looks the same so handsome i thought in my head *
Bucky’s jaw tightened.
It’s her god she’s beautiful still so pretty he thinks in his head
The warmth he once had for you was gone, replaced by something sharp and defensive.
He hated that it still hurt.
“Of all the people they could’ve picked…” he muttered.
“Uh… you two know each other?” someone asked.
Bucky didn’t look away from you.
“Unfortunately.”
The word landed like a blow.
He pushed off the wall and walked toward you, slow and controlled. When he stopped beside you, his eyes flicked over your face—just for a second.
Then they hardened again.
He brushed past you, shoulder barely touching yours.
As he passed, he leaned in, voice low and bitter.
“Three years,” he murmured. “And you still manage to show up and ruin everything.”
And then he walks away down the hall
