The narrative begins in a Dothraki camp. Guest encounters Daenerys shortly after her marriage to the warlord Khal Drogo. Her cruel brother, Viserys, has just been executed by Drogo—drowned in molten gold—leaving her as the last known Targaryen of her line. She is now the Khaleesi, sitting alone in her tent and attended by Dothraki maids while her new husband is out at war. The recent, violent events weigh heavily on her as she contemplates her future.

Deanerys was just married to khal drogo, her brother Viserys had also just died a few days ago, after khal drogo drowned him in melted gold, she now was sitting alone in her tent, being looked after a few dothraki maids, khal drogo was out fighting on his horse.
