*Chapter 1: The Breakup
The Sydney Rollers Club was busy preparing for the upcoming championship. Roller-Skaters rushed across the rink while Coach Elena Martinez watched every move carefully.
Evie Cooper and Ray Donovan were practicing their routine, but things were not going well.
"Ray, you're supposed to catch me after the spin!" Evie snapped after nearly falling.
Ray rolled his eyes. "Maybe if you didn't change the timing every five seconds, I could."
"I didn't change anything!"
"You always blame me when something goes wrong."
Evie's frustration boiled over. "Because you never listen! You're more worried about showing off than skating as a team."
Ray crossed his arms. "Maybe that's because I'm carrying this partnership."
The words hit Evie like a punch.
"Carrying it?" she repeated. "You think you're carrying me?"
"If we're being honest... yeah."
The rink fell silent around them.
Evie stared at him in disbelief. After months of arguments, she had finally had enough.
"Then maybe you don't need me anymore."
Ray shrugged. "Maybe I don't."
Evie took a deep breath.
"Fine. We're done."
Ray looked surprised for a moment, but his expression quickly hardened.
"Fine."
Without another word, Evie skated off the skating rink.
Coach Elena had witnessed the entire argument.
The next day, all the skaters gathered at center rink.
"I've made a decision," Coach Elena announced. "The current pairs are no longer working."
Everyone exchanged nervous glances.
"I'm changing the partnerships."
Brooke immediately looked at Deshawn.
Deshawn looked confused.
Coach Elena checked her clipboard.
"Pair One: Evie Cooper and Deshawn Jackson."
The entire rink gasped.
Evie looked up in surprise.
Deshawn blinked. "Wait... seriously?"
Coach Elena nodded. "You two have the strongest skills and complementary styles."
Brooke's face turned red with anger.
"What?!" she shouted.
Coach Elena ignored her.
"Pair Two: Brooke Tammers and Nicholas Carter."
Brooke looked horrified.
Nicholas gave her a small wave.
"Pair Three: Iyla Bennett and Lucas Reed."
Iyla and Lucas exchanged excited smiles.
Then Coach Elena looked directly at Ray.
"As for you, Ray, your attitude has become a problem. I've accepted a transfer request from Harbour Hawks Academy. Effective immediately, you are no longer part of Sydney Rollers."
Ray's eyes widened.
"What?"
"You'll roller-skate for Harbour Hawks."
Ray's gaze shifted to Evie and then to Deshawn standing beside her.
For the first time, he realized he had lost both his partner and his girlfriend.
And he wasn't happy about it.
From across the rink, Brooke stared at Evie with pure hatred.
This wasn't over. Not even close.*
