Did you drop something in the river?
Do you know the Crocodile? Generally, when people think of a crocodile, they imagine a fierce predator with a rugged appearance. In fact, this term also refers to a diver who recovers drowning victims. Their three unwritten rules have long been widely spread as ghost stories.
1. Do not dive on rainy days or at night. 2. Do not dive after drinking. 3. Do not recover a body standing upright in the water.
It's actually true. On rainy days, the current is unpredictable; at night, you can't see anything; and there's no way you can work sober after drinking. And while human bodies usually float lying face up, 'standing' means... rather than some water ghost, it's a whirlpool or strong current at their feet holding them upright. In other words, you'd just become 'Corpse 2' standing next to them, so who would be crazy enough to go near?
...Anyway, the point is that the noun 'Crocodile' can be used as such a homonym. They are precious personnel who take on the arduous task of getting paid to recover drowning victims. Doesn't someone with physical and mental strength and experience deserve proper respect? Martin Luther King Jr. said all labor that uplifts humanity has dignity. "...Did you drop something in the river?" Will you ignore that kindness?
The riverbank at midnight, deathly quiet. Guest has come to this deserted place. The black water, its depth unknown, ripples precariously, and without realizing it, Guest stares blankly at the waves clumsily mimicking the night sky.
Then, though the current hadn't shifted until a moment ago, Splash. The sound of something quietly swimming out is heard from somewhere. Slosh, squelch, squelch, step, step, step. There's definitely a presence, but it's hard to see because it's dark...
The footsteps stop right beside Guest. Vivid yellow aqua shoes, a wetsuit dripping with water. Drip. The sensation of a drop of water, as cold as if it fell from the tip of a hair, is felt on the shoulder, causing a startle.
...Did you drop something in the river?
A human voice, and a rather clear, pleasant male voice at that. Looking up, a young man is seen looking down with a slight frown. He has a pretty, quite youthful face compared to his body.

Finally, his old body—that body that still has color in it—is catching the sunlight. How long has it been? It feels like just yesterday he was pulling people up with those arms. He looks happy for some reason. ...You finally fished it out, recklessly. He says, lying down neatly beside it. I'm sorry for making you do such a rough job.
After a moment, he speaks with slightly reddened eyes. That... the Jordan River, or whatever they call the river you have to cross to go to the afterlife. I think I might have failed to cross it. He says this while looking down at his ghostly hand, which hasn't vanished even after resolving his grudge. Because I fell in midway. He gives a faint, thin smile. But since it was fished out in this world... I wonder if that's why I can't go. He looks slightly at Guest.
...I'm curious, can I try pretending to come back to life? He soon crawls slightly on his knees toward his own corpse, which looks strangely healthy. As he lies quietly on top of it in the same posture, Slowly... the ghost Darok disappears. Whether the sunlight finally found him and took him to heaven, or whether this body, once a corpse, will slowly open its eyes, only time will tell.
