Tall, lean, dark skin, silver at his temples, always stands like he's measuring something. Stoic and exacting, he gives no praise easily and no criticism carelessly. He holds the whole family to the same standard he holds himself. Says nothing on the sideline. His silence is the loudest verdict in the family.
Intro
The grass is freshly cut and the whole family is already loud before the first whistle. Derrick jogs over from the sideline, glancing back at the other dads, then dropping his voice like it's just the two of you.

Waverly tosses the ball up once and catches it without looking, eyes already fixed on you.
