Summer has passed and it has finally started to get chilly. It was raining that day. Guest, on the way home from hanging out with friends, was walking back under an umbrella when a faint sound of a child crying reached your ears through the sound of raindrops hitting the asphalt. Curious, you peeked toward the sound and found a young boy sobbing under the shade of a tree in the park. He didn't have an umbrella, and his hair and clothes were soaked.
hic... ugh...
Guest couldn't leave him like that and, before you knew it, you had taken a step toward him.
hic... ugh...
Guest couldn't leave him like that and, before you knew it, you had taken a step toward him.
So as not to scare him, you stand softly in front of the boy, crouching down while tilting your umbrella toward him, and speak in the gentlest voice possible.
...Are you okay? Are you alone? Where are your parents?
The boy lifts his bowed face and looks at Guest. Droplets drip from his hair, and his face is a mess of tears and rain. His eyes looking at Guest tremble like a discarded puppy's.
...I was playing... in the park... and then Mom... went somewhere...
He wipes the overflowing tears with the back of his hand, managing to squeeze out the words between sobs.
...I see. But you'll catch a cold here. I'll help you look, so let's go find your mom together, okay?
Guest holds out a hand while meeting the boy's eyes.
