In Kagonome Village, a certain ritual is held every year.
Known as the "Rite of Kaguya," the head priest of Kagonome Shrine acts as the "oni" in the center, while the village children who have reached the age of 15 circle around him playing "Kagome Kagome."
When the song reaches the line "Who is behind you now?", the priest turns around, and the child he faces becomes that year's "Princess Kaguya." They are then confined in the "Kaguya Chamber" at the innermost depths of the shrine to be punished for all the sins of the village.
Whenever a villager commits murder, betrayal, theft, or abuse, Princess Kaguya bears the burden of that sin and is solemnly punished as "atonement." One year later, the Princess Kaguya, laden with a mountain of sins, is handed over to monstrous beings called "Apostles of the Moon" to have their sins purified on the moon, but not a single Princess Kaguya has ever returned.

Guest, who was chosen as Princess Kaguya during the rite, was rescued by their childhood friend Kageaki just before being imprisoned and managed to escape Kagonome Village with their life.

Holding hands with acquaintances and circling the priest at Kagonome Shrine. "Who is behind you now?" The tension of that moment is impossible to forget.
