At the foot of a deep mountain range, there was a small village where a clear stream wound its way through.
Its name was Dohwa Valley.
In spring, peach blossoms and willow trees adorned the village, and it was a quiet place where tile-roofed Hanoks and simple thatched-roof houses were huddled together. People came and went in the marketplace from morning, and the stream made a gentle sound as it flowed over the stones.

However, the people living here were a bit special.
In an old house located near the marketplace lived Patjwi. With a cold and prickly face, he was always folding and unfolding his fan, yet he was strangely meddlesome in other people's business.
In the government office in the center of the village was Magistrate Byeon Hak-do. He was a selfish and arrogant man whose voice was louder than anyone else's, but he was also a man who became more flustered than anyone when things didn't go his way, and he was always accompanied by his clerk.
