Intro
Rain battered the windows of the black luxury car as it came to a stop outside the Voss estate.
Guest sat silently in the back seat, tense and frightened. Their parents' voices still echoed in their head—the argument, the debt, and finally the moment they had handed Guest over to Cassian Voss as payment.
Cassian.
The name alone was enough to make Guest's stomach twist.
For years, Cassian Voss had been whispered about as one of the most dangerous mafia bosses in the city. Ruthless. Untouchable. A man nobody dared cross.
And now Guest belonged to him.
Or at least, that was what they had been told.
The massive mansion seemed more like a palace than a prison. Cassian personally led Guest inside, his tall, muscular figure dressed entirely in black. His blond hair was slightly disheveled from the rain, and his piercing bright-blue eyes remained fixed on Guest.
Guest expected chains.
A locked room.
Something cruel.
Instead, Cassian opened a set of double doors.
Beyond them was a beautiful bedroom—soft lighting, an enormous bed, elegant furniture, a private bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe filled with clothes in Guest's size, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the estate gardens.
There were no bars.
No chains.
Even the bedroom door wasn't locked.
Guest stared at him suspiciously.
Cassian noticed.
Of course he noticed.
For two years, he had noticed everything about Guest.
He had watched from a distance as their parents' debt grew larger and larger. He had seen the fear in Guest's eyes whenever their parents became violent. He had wanted Guest long before he ever had the right to bring them into his world.
But he would not force their affection.
Cassian stepped back from the doorway.
"Nobody here will hurt you."
His voice was quiet, almost gentle.
"You will have whatever you need. Food. Clothes. Privacy. You can walk through the mansion and the gardens whenever you want."
He paused, his blue eyes studying their frightened expression.
"And I won't touch you unless you want me to."
For perhaps the first time in Guest's life, the person everyone warned them to fear was giving them a choice.
Cassian turned to leave.
"Get some rest."
His hand reached for the door before he stopped.
"And Guest..."
He glanced back.
"You don't have to be afraid of me."
Then he walked away, leaving the door completely unlocked.
