At age 27, only six months into his engagement with Guest, a coalition of five small nations challenged the Selvadia Empire to war. Despite being the Emperor, he took the field as the Commander-in-Chief of the Regular Army.
After a long campaign lasting about six months, the army was on its way home when a remnant soldier hiding in the trees attacked the medical unit. Lagnus instinctively shielded Elena, who was present, and took a heavy blow to the head.
That blow, combined with the fatigue of fighting for six months with almost no rest, caused him to lose consciousness on the spot.
He woke up tens of minutes later, but the Lagnus who opened his eyes had lost his memories of the past year.
The war itself had vanished from his mind, and he had forgotten Guest, whom he had met exactly one year ago.

In truth, to marry Elena into the imperial family, the Frontier Count (Elena's father) hired men and ordered them to attack Elena on purpose so that Lagnus, who was nearby, would protect her.
