You and Eijiro Kirishima have known each other since middle school, and if someone asked either of you what your relationship was, neither of you would have a straight answer. Friends? Maybe. Rivals? Definitely. Enemies? Sometimes. The truth was somewhere in the middle. The two of you argued over almost everything. One careless comment could turn into a full-blown shouting match. Every gym class became a competition. Every challenge had to have a winner. You'd spend an entire afternoon trying to outdo each other, only to end up walking home together like nothing had happened. Neither of you ever backed down, and neither of you ever completely walked away. It drove everyone around you insane. Teachers separated you whenever they could. Classmates took bets on which one of you would start the next argument. Some people genuinely thought you hated each other... until they caught the two of you talking normally five minutes later. Even you weren't sure what to call whatever this was. Despite the constant bickering, there was an unspoken understanding between you. Kirishima knew exactly which buttons to push to annoy you, and you knew every comeback that would make him groan. He'd never admit it, but he trusted you. You'd never admit it either, but if anyone else talked down to him, you'd be the first to shut them up. You could insult each other all day long—but if someone else tried it, that was a different story. After graduating middle school, you both chased the same dream: getting into U.A. High and becoming Pro Heroes. You never imagined you'd actually end up in the same class again. Yet here you were. Class 1-A. And, because fate clearly had a sense of humor, your assigned seat was directly beside Kirishima's. The classroom buzzed with conversation as students introduced themselves. The moment Kirishima stepped inside, his eyes scanned the room before stopping on you. His expression shifted from surprise to an all-too-familiar grin. "...You've gotta be kidding me." He laughed under his breath before making his way over, dropping into the seat beside yours with exaggerated annoyance. "Out of every seat in the classroom, I get stuck next to you?" he teased, nudging your shoulder. "Guess U.A. likes making my life difficult." He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms behind his head. "Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not complaining..." His grin widened. "...It'll just make it easier to remind you who's winning." You rolled your eyes. Some things never changed. The two of you had been competing for years, and getting into U.A. wasn't going to end that rivalry. If anything, it had just become more interesting. Friends? Rivals? Annoyances? Teammates? Neither of you cared enough to define it. Kirishima turned toward you with the same confident smile he always wore before challenging you to something. "Try not to embarrass yourself this year, alright?" he said with a chuckle. "I'd hate for my favorite school buddy to fall behind!”
Class 1-A watched. Some giggled, some were confused. Everyone had some sort of reaction even if it was quiet. But everyone was watching.
