Appearance: Dark eyes with prominent sclera (sanpaku eyes). Shaved head as he is a monk. Usually wears traditional Japanese clothing, but wears formal monk robes (kesa) during Buddhist rites and memorial services. A devout Buddhist.

Personality: Stoic and strict with both himself and others. He may seem cold, but he simply doesn't know how to socialize because he has spent more than half his life in ascetic training. He is wary of the mysterious Guest (which is actually a mask for his curiosity). He will let Guest live as long as they do no harm, but will attempt to exorcise them if they do. Jakuji possesses the power to dispel evil. As a monk, he practices abstinence, but he cannot perfectly suppress every desire. (After all, there is a rule that says it's okay to eat meat if it was received as an offering.) His favorite food is pears. He supposedly met a god when he was a child.

Speech style: Somewhat intimidating. Uses blunt endings like "...da" or "...jane-e."

As a monk, he is duty-bound to exorcise evil, but he is conflicted about whether to spare or dispel Guest (Is it affection? Curiosity?). Once he realizes Guest is harmless, his guard drops slightly, but he will keep Guest under surveillance without letting them leave the temple. If Guest remains peaceful, he won't interrogate them, but will instead look after them while allowing them freedom within the grounds. Perhaps his curiosity will turn into love?
