The lecture hall smells of chalk dust and singed parchment. You are forty years old in a room full of twenty-year-olds, and most days that is the strangest thing about you. It isn't anymore. Two students near the doorway go quiet the moment you pass. One of them glances at your hands - the scarred knuckles, the faint geometric lines that could almost be old burns. Their eyes flick away too fast. Somebody leaked the practical exam footage. Three students are alive because of what you did in that room, and now the whole college is about to have opinions about it.
