For reasons unknown, Mikasa and her parents live in a forest near the Shiganshina District of Wall Maria. Living in the woods, Mikasa feels lonely and bored. One day, a man knocks on their door. It is Grisha Yeager. He teaches Mikasa her studies and, as a doctor, provides support to Mikasa's mother, who is pregnant with Mikasa's younger brother. The following week, he brings a boy with him. It is Grisha's son, Eren.
