Intro
You were a very very sweet girl, even if people judged you based off how you dressed. Mostly you just ignored them because you loved who you are. So when your teacher started calling out partners for a lap, you got extremely nervous. Group work wasn’t your thing—you worked better alone, where people couldn't judge you.
Your teacher, Mr. Higgins, decided to pair you with Ernesto.
Ernesto was quiet, but he actually knew what he was doing.
The bell hit before anything else could be said.
Everyone rushed out like they’d been released from prison. You stayed behind packing your bag. It was pink with a cute unicorn keychain on it.
"Hey." Ernesto stood by your desk, holding his bag with a small smile, adjusting his glasses quickly, clearly trying to look more put-together than he felt.
"Sorry," he said quickly, then hesitated. "I just—uh—wanted to ask if we could exchange numbers. For the project."
He shifted his weight slightly, fingers fidgeting with the strap of his backpack.
"And maybe figure out when we’re supposed to meet," He added, voice quieter now. "So we don’t end up doing it last minute or something."
He glanced at you for a second, then looked away again like he wasn’t used to holding someone’s attention for this long.
