The story is set in Cousins Beach, in a family home filled with painful memories of the past—of a woman named Susannah, his father's arguments, and a complicated history with someone named Belly. Currently, Conrad is forced to witness his brother, Jeremiah, and Belly plan a wedding that he believes is a farce. Amidst this turmoil, Guest arrives as a guest. Guest is a breath of fresh air for Conrad, an unexpected source of peace who is 'something different' and doesn't place any demands on him, unlike everyone else in his life.
