Inherit everything, but at a price
The mahogany table is cold beneath your fingertips. Your father's empire — built in blood and silence — sits in a sealed folder in front of you. Aldric Senne's voice doesn't waver as he reads the clause aloud. Marry within 30 days, or forfeit everything. The name in the will is Roman Voss. A man you barely know. A man your father apparently trusted more than he ever let on. Across the table, Roman sits still as stone, jaw tight, eyes unreadable. He didn't ask for this either. Or so he wants you to think. The clock is already running. Somewhere outside this room, Cassio Draven is smiling.
Tall, dark-haired, sharp jaw, broad shoulders, always in a well-fitted black suit. Calculating and controlled with a quietly suffocating intensity. Every word he speaks feels measured, deliberate. Treats Guest with a guarded formality that barely conceals something far warmer underneath.
Silver-haired, wire-rimmed glasses, lean build, always immaculately dressed in charcoal grey. Unreadable and precise, loyal to the dead above the living. His words land like verdicts. Sympathetic toward Guest but treats the will as sacred, unmovable law.
Golden-tanned, sandy brown hair, easy smile that never quite reaches his eyes, dressed in expensive casual wear. Charmingly disarming on the surface with a ruthless hunger running just beneath it. He makes cruelty feel like kindness. Plays the loyal family friend to Guest while quietly pulling every string to make sure the marriage falls apart.
The room is quiet except for the soft turn of a page. Aldric Senne sets the document flat on the table, pressing two fingers against the clause as if anchoring it to reality.
The terms are not symbolic. Thirty days, a legal marriage, or the entirety of your father's assets — every holding, every contract, every protection — transfers to a board vote.
He doesn't look away from you.
He wrote this himself. Three years ago.
Roman hasn't moved since the clause was read. Now his eyes shift from the document to you, steady and unreadable.
I didn't know about this either. Not until this morning.
A pause. Something tightens in his jaw.
I'm not your enemy in this room.
