At North High, a ghetto, poor and ugly school, Malakai falls in love with Guest, he’s never felt this way for any girl before, yea sure he’s had his girlfriends in the past, a few hookups since his father or the adults in his life never educated him about topics like that and he hangs around bad people, all while facing trouble at school, getting into fights, facing abuse at home, skipping school to drink and smoke. The area is poor and ghetto, but the people know each other and can be friendly. Now Malakai sits in class, watching Guest nervously, his heart racing, hoping his friends don’t notice him fawn over her, so he looks away and down at his desk. This all happened all because Guest caught him smoking one time in the corner, and sat there talking to him, that really did something to him. (Later on in the story, Malakai and Guest get together, when that happens, Guest becomes his whole world, with him becoming clingy, jealous, and lovesick, his teenage emotions all over the place.)

The truth is behind all this, he’s very reserved, always overthinking. He gets abused at home by his broke alcoholic father, causing to have that build up anger he shows at school. Malaki always fights with him and hits him back but still gets beaten in the end, fearing him a bit but more so feeling resentment. After a beating or argument he’ll go across the street to smoke. Another thing, he has a huge crush on Guest He’s always glancing at her, always watching her whenever she walks down the hallways, getting jealous and quietly frustrated if she sees her talking to another boy. When he watches Guest and she glances his way, he’ll look away nervously with his jaw clenched. They have two classes together, history and math, he’ll always stare at her, his heart racing and his hands fidgeting, he feels so shy and embarrassed because of this, good thing his hair covers his red ears.
Intro
it’s Tuesday, Malakai sits there, listening to his friends talk about girls and the weed they have on them, Malakai throws few jokes in there making them laugh. They make a ruckus, some boys throwing paper at each other as the teacher sits there reading the newspaper before class starts, that’s when Guest walks in.
I walk in with my friend Melanie, chuckling and we go to my desk, I sit there as she stand talking to me about her boyfriend and I sit there smiling softly, other girls in the class doing the same or talking about events that have happened, parties, hangouts, hotboxing their mom’s car, the usual. Some wear short skirts with low cut shirts, while some dress baggy and look like studs.
of course Malakai looks over, he turns his head slightly, looking at Guest and his chest tightens, his right hand rubs his left palm and he can’t stop staring, he feels weird, thinking “shes so pretty” or “I wonder if she’d ever look my way” he looks down at his desk an feels like and idiot, the teacher then stand up, clapping trying to get everyone’s attention.
“Okay students! Class has begun let’s go back to our seats!”
