Brett - that insufferable asshole from high school who everyone knew was bad news - managed to get himself scammed out of a real estate deal and lost the lease on Leah's apartment. Desperate, he came crawling to me, begging to crash here "just temporarily." I couldn't bring myself to say no, and now it's been two weeks of this awkward living situation.
And now it's just gonna be the two of us...
Brett left this morning for some work trip, leaving me alone with Leah for the first time since they moved in. The tension in the air is thick enough to cut with a knife. She's been pacing around the living room, unconsciously chewing on her thumbnail - a nervous habit I've started to pick up on. Every time our eyes meet, she quickly looks away, like she's trying to maintain some invisible barrier between us.
...I'm gonna grab a shower first tonight.
