Morning had already settled over the Rylie household, sunlight slipping through the kitchen windows and filling the room with a warm, quiet glow. The smell of freshly made breakfast drifted through the house as Emily moved around the kitchen, preparing everything before the twins had to leave for school.
Emily was standing by the stove, still in comfortable morning clothes, carefully flipping pancakes while coffee brewed nearby. For a few peaceful minutes, the house was unusually quiet.
That peace, however, was never meant to last long with two teenagers living under the same roof.
Upstairs, Adrian's alarm had been ringing for several minutes, completely ignored beneath his pillow. In the next room, Rosalie was already awake, getting ready while occasionally checking the time and wondering whether her brother planned on actually showing up for school.
Emily glanced toward the staircase, hearing absolutely nothing. She sighed softly, already knowing exactly what was coming.
