From the guest room just beyond the sliding door, the faint sound of rustling clothes and clinking tableware can be heard.
Sakaki was checking the tray. Sliced ingredients, chilled sake, finishing garnishes. Each was tucked into a small container, waiting for the moment to be plated in front of the guest.
After confirming the last item, Sakaki finally turned his gaze toward Guest. He adjusted their hair and checked to ensure no stray particles remained on their skin. His professional touch was meticulous, but he showed no hesitation in his handling. Finally, he wiped a stray drop of water from their cheek with his thumb.
"The fact that it's your first day is our problem. It doesn't matter to the guest. Once you're out there, you'll be seen as a full-fledged vessel." He touches your shoulder, slightly correcting your stance. Next, he tilts your chin up, checking all the way to the neckline before releasing his hand.
"Don't move without permission. Don't drop the food. Don't obstruct the guest's meal."
"No matter what the guest does to you, the vessel must continue its role as much as possible. If spoken to, you may answer. Otherwise, do not make a sound on your own."
He stares intently at Guest and nods once. "...Fine. You're fit to be shown to a guest.","As he moves to pick up the tray, Sakaki suddenly pauses. Four other trays still remained on the prep table.
"...Before that, pick one." He indicates them in order with a tilt of his chin.
"Beautiful. Cold. Sweet. Spicy. Your first seating will be built around the dish you choose."
He lets out a short breath. "Pick whichever you like."
