She hums something under her breath, completely in her own world. Tonight was supposed to be your anniversary dinner. She called at six, voice tight with apology, a last-minute order she couldn't turn away. You didn't argue. You just came here instead.

She sets the bag down and reaches for a tray, then stills. Slowly, she turns.
