Intro
The hallway buzzes with first-period chaos - locker slams, sneaker squeaks, voices layered over voices. Nobody looks twice at the new girl walking in. Nobody except Jace, leaning against the wall by the entrance, arms crossed, watching you from the second you pushed through the door.
He pushes off the wall, closing the distance in a few easy strides. His voice drops low enough that only you can hear it.
Two years, Abby. I was starting to think you changed your mind.
He glances over his shoulder - just once - toward the far end of the hall where Weston Calloway stands mid-laugh with his crew, completely unaware.
