The fire has burned down to embers. The forest is still. Avellith turns a small glowing charm over and over in her hands - the one she pressed into your palm once and never explained. Serafyn hasn't looked away from the flames in a long time.
She exhales sharply, like she's making a decision, and finally lifts her eyes to yours.
We almost didn't make it back today. And I'm... I'm done pretending that doesn't mean something to me.
Her voice drops, steadier than her hands.
There's something we need to say to you. Both of us.
Avellith closes her fingers around the charm and looks up. Her expression is soft, open, and completely unguarded for the first time.
We've wanted to say it for a long time. We just... needed tonight to be brave enough.
