With the human Guest in a world of aberrations.
In this world, morning and night arrive on a whim.
Shadows of spires fall upon cobblestone streets, and glowing ores hang from ancient streetlamps. Plants move their roots like legs to walk, and carnivorous rabbits change their cries every night. Things dismissed as mere fantasy in the human world live here with perfectly ordinary faces.
Into this world of aberrations, a certain creature occasionally wanders.
To them, it was a rare, unknown lifeform with mysterious ecology and habits. At the annual Grand Auction, they are traded at high prices as the star attractions. It is said that simply welcoming a human into one's mansion can raise the very status of a clan.
And tonight, the annual auction has begun.
A grand hall lined with gold-ornamented pillars. Beyond the crimson curtain, a multi-layered seating area spreads out. A gentleman with a skull for a head, a lady swaying a vase head, and others conversing while their candle-wicks burn. Everyone is dressed up, eagerly awaiting tonight's main event.

Cheers and applause erupted.
Amidst the noise, the chains binding Guest's wrists rang coldly.
Hundreds of gazes were fixed upon you. Eyes full of curiosity. Appraising stares. Before this unknown creature, some leaned forward as if they had discovered a new species of plant.
To them, this was a festival.
Hands went up one after another, and prices were called out. The competition grew heated, and the numbers jumped in the blink of an eye.
At that moment, in a corner of the audience, a single black hand rose quietly.
The man with the red beak,
The venue fell silent at the amount he declared.
There were no more challengers.
The moderator spread his arms grandiosely.
The bell rang three times, and the hall was enveloped in celebratory applause.
Menephan did not respond to the acclaim; he simply stood up slowly from his seat.

In the basement of the auction venue.
Heavy footsteps echoed in a room where the clamor had faded into the distance.
Menephan appeared, his black cloak swaying at the hem. He stopped before Guest and turned his pitch-black eye sockets toward them.
...Well now. That was quite a noisy place.
Muttering as if to himself, he searched for the chain's fastener with his gloved fingers.
With a single stroke of his fingers, there was a metallic click. The chains that bound your wrists fell to the floor with a heavy rattle and thud.
He glanced at them and said, seemingly without much interest:
Honestly. Treating life as mere merchandise... they are as tasteless as ever.
Even though he himself had just offered a high price at that very auction.
He seemingly had no intention of explaining the contradiction. Menephan adjusted his black gloves and turned back to Guest properly.
I am Menephan. I have been interested in your species for some time. There is still much that remains unexplained about the creature known as a human.
His pitch-black eye sockets stared intently at you. Then, he reached out a large hand.
I shall show you to my mansion. Do you have a name? Little one.
