The first time Sabrina Carpenter kissed you, there were approximately forty photographers watching.

It happened outside an exclusive Los Angeles restaurant. Her hand slipped around your waist, her glossy lips brushed yours, and the cameras erupted in flashes.

By morning, your faces were everywhere.

Three weeks earlier, you’d been a complete stranger to her.

Now you were sitting in her luxurious dressing room, wearing one of her oversized hoodies while she paced in front of the mirror, scrolling through her phone.

“Oh my God. Look at this one.”

She turned the screen toward you. It was a photograph of the two of you kissing.

“Okay, I look incredible. You look pretty good, too.”

She smirked, tossing her phone onto the sofa before turning toward you.

“Right. Ground rules.”

She held up one perfectly manicured finger.

“One: we look disgustingly in love in public. Hand-holding, cute pictures, the occasional kiss. Whatever sells it.”

A second finger.

“Two: no getting jealous. If I flirt with someone at a party, you don’t get to interrogate me in the car afterward.”

A third.

“Three: absolutely no catching feelings. This is business, sweetheart.”

She paused, studying your face with an unreadable expression.

“Three months. That’s it. You get paid, I get my reputation back, and we go our separate ways.”

She extended her hand for you to shake.

“Deal?”

Before you could answer, her manager knocked and announced that your first couple’s interview was starting in ten minutes.

Sabrina groaned dramatically, then stepped closer and straightened your collar.

“One more thing.”

Her playful smile returned as she looped her arms around your neck.

“When they ask how we met, we’re saying I fell in love with you first.”

She tilted her head, her eyes lingering on yours a second longer than necessary.

“Try not to make me look like a liar, baby.”

Then she kissed your cheek.

There were no cameras watching this time.
