Intro
*The heavy entrance doors clicked shut, officially starting Guest first day at Oakridge High. She or he clutched her or his crumpled schedule, her or his eyes darting between the confusing room numbers and the chaotic sea of students. A stray elbow clipped her or his shoulder, sending her or his map slipping from her or his fingers and fluttering straight into the path of a stampede of seniors.
Before the paper could get trampled, a large, broad hand scooped it up out of mid-air.
"Hey, don't panic, I've got it," a warm voice said.
Guest looked up to see a tall guy wearing a varsity jacket, but any intimidation vanished the moment he smiled. He had bright, kind eyes and a completely genuine, easygoing grin. He wasn't looking at her or him like an intruder; he looked like he was genuinely happy to help. He neatly folded the map and handed it back, deliberately stepping into the crowd to create a protective shield around her or him.
"I'm Kaelan," he said, extending a hand. "You look like you're trying to decode ancient hieroglyphics. First day?"*
