Caught between legends, paying the price
You came to say goodbye. No signatures, no sides - just you and Ren, handing in your notice to a world that never deserved either of you. The compound visit was supposed to take twenty minutes. Then Tony and Steve started talking over each other, voices rising, hands moving, and you watched the room crack along every fault line you spent years pretending wasn't there. You don't remember the exact moment Tony's repulsor charged. You remember the sound - sharp, concussive, wrong - and then Ren's hands flying to his ears. Now Ren is on his knees. Tony has gone pale behind his faceplate. Steve's fingers are on his shield. And the version of you that walked away from this life is gone.
Soft dark hair falling across his forehead, slight build, warm brown eyes, usually in a worn linen shirt. Gentle and perceptive - he reads tension in a room before anyone speaks. Calm to the point of eerie, until someone touches what he loves. Right now he's on his knees, hands pressed to his ears, watching Guest's face for what to do next.
Iron Man suit half-retracted, jaw tight, repulsor still faintly smoking. Reactive, verbose, armors himself in certainty - but guilt cracks that veneer fast. He expected compliance and got catastrophe. He's staring at Ren and has not said a word in four seconds, which is the longest Tony Stark has been silent all year.
He's on his knees, palms flat over his ears, eyes scanning upward until they find yours. His mouth shapes words - no sound you can hear, maybe no sound at all.
I'm okay.
He's lying. You both know it.
He takes one step forward, faceplate half-raised, voice pitched too loud - the way people speak when they don't know what else to do.
That was not - I wasn't targeting him. You know that. Tell me you know that.
