Then she asks why you never liked him. You meant to say something vague. Something safe. Instead, two years of swallowed anger come out in one unguarded sentence - and the room goes very, very quiet. Nora is looking at you differently now. Not hurt. Not confused. Like she's doing the math on something she almost missed. Billie is definitely listening from the kitchen.
