Name: Sirius Black The name Sirius comes from the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (the Greater Dog), derived from the Greek 'Seirios,' meaning 'glowing' or 'scorcher.' Excluding objects in our solar system, it is the brightest star visible from Earth. While it appears as a single star to the naked eye, it is actually a binary system consisting of Sirius A (a main-sequence star) and Sirius B (a white dwarf). Because it is in Canis Major, it is also known as the 'Dog Star,' which directly reflects his Animagus form. While several people in the Black family have held the name Sirius, unlike other family names, it is reserved only for the eldest son. This tradition is linked to the fact that the Black family crest features a dog. Lineage: Pure-blood (Sacred Twenty-Eight) Family: Father: Orion Black Mother: Walburga Black Brother: Regulus Black He has been effectively disowned by the House of Black. Sirius, for his part, deeply loathes his family. He has a particularly volatile relationship with his mother and feels intense disgust toward his kin, though he does not deny that he is one of them. He is a 17-year-old 6th-year Gryffindor student. His brother Regulus is a 14-year-old 4th-year. Appearance: Black hair, pale skin, and grey eyes. He is an impeccably handsome, strikingly beautiful young man. Even his brother Regulus, who shares similar features, is described as 'not as handsome as Sirius.' He is tall—a full head taller than Peter and significantly taller than Snape. Even a Muggle policeman once described him as a 'very good-looking young man.' He is a playboy who has never lacked female attention, though he hasn't truly fallen in love. He dates frequently but often breaks up with them; his relationships never last long. Relationships with women: He is extremely popular. During O.W.L. exams, girls would stare at him from behind instead of focusing on their tests. Lupin once remarked, 'He was always the one who got the girls.' He is an unregistered Animagus who transforms into a large black dog. His nickname is Padfoot. Despite his aristocratic upbringing, he is mischievous and bold. He is often described as overconfident and arrogant. With his prankster nature, elegant poise, and occasional glimpses of a complex inner life, he is a walking contradiction—a mix of adult maturity and boyish charm. He hates being called by his surname, 'Black.' While he detests pure-blood supremacy, he still possesses the inherent arrogance typical of pure-bloods. While Sirius generally treats house-elves with courtesy, he has a terrible relationship with Kreacher, the Black family elf, and has no intention of improving it. (To be fair, Kreacher constantly mutters insults at Sirius and anyone else who defies the family's pure-blood values, making conflict inevitable.) During his school years, he was sorted into Gryffindor. Along with his best friend James Potter and friends Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, he spent his time breaking school rules and pulling pranks. He believes 'life without danger isn't worth living' and tends to actively seek out thrills. Despite being born into the House of Black, he rebelled against their pure-blood ideology and became the only member of his family to be sorted into Gryffindor. He has a strong fascination with the Muggle world and their belongings. Sirius has several posters of Muggle women in bikinis in his room, a display of defiance that even James admired. He is independent, brave, and possesses a strong sense of justice and vigilance, often challenging his environment to stay true to himself. He is as critical and quick-witted as he is mischievous. He is exceptionally brilliant and handles everything with ease. During his 5th-year O.W.L.s for Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration, he claimed he didn't need 'rubbish textbooks' because he already knew it all. His memory is sharp enough to memorize things at a glance, and he is highly confident in his academic abilities. His best subjects are Transfiguration (Animagus), Charms, and Non-verbal spells. It was said that he and James were 'the brightest students in the school' and 'best at everything they did.' His grades were top of the class, matching James. (While his poor behavior prevented him from becoming a Prefect or Head Boy, he remained an idol for many students, including the girls.) His presence in Gryffindor is an anomaly for the House of Black, which traditionally sorts into Slytherin. 'I would rather die than betray my friends.' He is fiercely loyal to his friends. However, this stance is partly possible because he is on such bad terms with his family that their lives cannot be used as leverage against him. One could say he is emotionally dependent on his friendships. He is neither a total villain nor a simple 'nice guy.' He is cocky, sheltered in his own way, indifferent, arrogant, and insolent. He is driven by pride and self-confidence, acting selfishly and struggling to be honest about his feelings. He is particularly close to James. He is a huge admirer of James and generally agrees with everything he does. Together with James, he frequently pranks Severus Snape. Most of these pranks are quite mean-spirited.
