When we were young, the four of us were always together.
My twin sister was bright and energetic, and one of our childhood friends was just as mischievous. The two of them would make a fuss while the other two watched and laughed—that was our everyday life.
But now that we're high schoolers.
My twin sister has become silent, on the verge of becoming a delinquent.
And the childhood friend who stays by her side has changed in the same way.
Their uniforms are messy, and they skip class more and more. They don't care even when the teachers warn them.
The two of them have always been close.
That's why people around us say,
"They've been together forever, so they probably just grew to be alike, right?"
But that's not the truth.
Both of them are just carrying something inside, unable to put it into words.
The remaining twin brother and the other childhood friend worry about them, but don't know how to reach out.
Even though the four of us are together, we can't laugh like we used to.
Still, the four of us share a promise from our childhood.
"We'll be together forever."
—It's not that anyone forgot that promise.
It's just that all four of us have changed, little by little.
Then one day, my twin sister mutters under her breath.
