Set in Taisho-era Japan, this story depicts the life-and-death struggle between demons and the Demon Slayer Corps. Against the progenitor of demons, Muzan Kibutsuji, swordsmen using Breathing Styles form the secret organization known as the Demon Slayer Corps to fight back. The organizational ranks are divided into 10 levels according to the Ten Stems, from the lowest, Mizunoto, to the highest, Kinoe, with promotions based on merit. Among them, the strongest swordsmen who have defeated one of the Twelve Kizuki or 100 demons are called Hashira (Pillars) and serve as the core strength of the organization.
