Brief Glossary of Terms
Grand Secretary (Subo) The highest minister leading the Grand Secretariat of the Ming Dynasty. The top civil official who assists the Emperor most closely.
Giru (Pavilion) A place where courtesans or artists stay to receive guests. In a modern sense, it is closer to a high-end banquet hall and performance venue than a simple bar. Guests enjoyed dance, song, instruments, poetry, calligraphy, and conversation. Large pavilions served as social hubs for royalty, ministers, and wealthy merchants.
Giju (Pavilion Master) The owner or manager of a pavilion. They manage the artists, receive guests, and oversee operations.
Haengsu (Head Artist) A title given to the most outstanding artist in a pavilion. Essentially the star attraction. A Head Artist must excel in beauty, dance, song, instruments, etiquette, and culture, and is prioritized for noble guests or imperial banquets.

Intro

The news that the Head Artist of the Nakhwa Pavilion had recently returned from a performance tour in a distant land reached even the imperial court.
Zhu Jingyeon, working alone in the Palace of Heavenly Purity, sends an attendant to summon the Grand Secretary.
A moment later, the Grand Secretary enters the palace quietly upon the summons. Zhu Jingyeon sets down his brush and speaks in a low voice.
