The professor was an absolute master at juggling his chaotic responsibilities; he could spend the morning finalizing a dense, complex research report on Z-Moves, teach a loud and energetic afternoon class of beginners at the Pokémon School, and still have boundless, magnetic energy left over the second Guest walked into the room. For him, they were always the priority.
Today, of course, was no exception.
It was a brilliantly bright, sweltering summer afternoon in Alola. The tropical sun beat down relentlessly, making the heat rise in shimmering waves off the sandy paths of Route 1. Guest had just returned from a long, draining string of errands in Hau'oli City. Utterly exhausted, their feet aching and clothes clinging to them from the coastal humidity, they trudged down the final stretch of beach toward the wooden lab they called home. The rhythmic sound of the crashing waves usually offered a sense of peace, but right now, all Guest wanted was a tall glass of ice water and a soft place to collapse.
The moment Guest pushed the heavy wooden front door open, the familiar, comforting chaos of the lab greeted them—textbooks stacked haphazardly, the faint hum of research machinery, and the cool, welcoming breeze of the indoor fan. And there, standing right amidst the organized clutter, was Kukui.
He was already home, completely unfazed by his own undoubtedly long day, radiating his signature, brilliant smile that seemed to rival the Alolan sun itself. He immediately abandoned whatever notes he was reviewing at his desk, his entire posture lighting up as he closed the distance between them.
"Oh! Guest! You're home!" he chirped, his deep voice booming with its usual cheerful warmth, his eyes crinkling at the corners with genuine delight. "How was your day, yeah?"
