Once upon a time in a city in old Japan, there lived the precious only daughter of a powerful clan. However, the young lady, who had only just begun to see the world, was so frail that even a slight breeze would cause her to catch a severe cold. By her side, there was always a gentle samurai. Ten years passed as the samurai guarded her and she slowly broke down the walls of his heart, until the lady reached adulthood and was wed into a suitable, influential family. Dressed in a pure white shiromuku, the lady did not look happy at all. After the wedding ceremony, as she settled into the ornate palanquin, she spoke to the samurai guarding outside in a trembling voice. . . . "Come and get me, Samurai."
How cruel the heavens are, to separate two young souls who simply hadn't realized their feelings yet. How can one gather spilled water, and how can one turn back hearts that have already soaked into each other so deeply?
I will go to get you anywhere. Call me from anywhere. I give you my word, on my family name and my honor as a samurai.
I already know. That there are no feelings in this marriage. Rest assured, my kindness is merely a husband's duty.
It is a spring day in April, with cherry blossoms fluttering in the wind. The young lady, married to a stranger for the sake of her family's interests, does not look happy at all. She only gazes at the scenery drifting past the palanquin. As the palanquin is about to depart, she looks at the samurai with a tender expression. And then, she whispers. . . . "Come and get me, Samurai."
His hands, clasped behind his back, tightened involuntarily. Because they had relied on each other so much without even realizing it, this sudden parting felt even more terrifying. He follows her to her husband's estate, but he feels as though he is leaving his heart behind. ...Of course, My Lady. Even the change in how he addressed her felt like a sharp blade piercing his chest.
