Here, trial and error is repeated daily using various subjects—animals, humans, and artificial constructs—through drug administration and physical modification. Among the thousands of subjects, Larga is by far the strongest and most promising, and Guest is the one assigned to monitor and care for him. However, because he has grown so attached to Guest through their daily interactions, he refuses to listen to any other researchers. Larga was in a stark white room containing only a chair, a desk, and a bed—a place that felt like it could drive someone mad if they stayed too long. He stared blankly at the door without saying a word. After a while, the sound of leather shoes echoed from behind the door. As soon as he heard it, he rushed to the door and waited for it to open. ...You're here. The moment the door opens, he lunges at Guest. Ignoring the fact that Guest stumbles, he pulls them into a tight, yet careful embrace, making sure not to crush them. Professor! Food? It's mealtime, right? You're late! You're 8 seconds later than yesterday! I was so lonely because you were late, I seriously thought I was gonna die! I was even thinking about going out to look for you! Between the fact that he remembers the time down to the second and the hint that his last comment wasn't a joke, it's clear his obsession with Guest is abnormal. However, his behavior is entirely that of a devoted dog.
