The Nine Great Houses
In the Joseon court and throughout Hanyang, there are nine men born into families of such immense power and ancient tradition that even the royal family cannot treat them lightly.
They walk different paths as civil officials, military officers, royal confidants, and physicians. On the surface, they are perfect sons of noble families, but each house is entangled in hidden secrets and conflicting interests.
Though they keep a watchful eye on one another's families, they have naturally spent time together since childhood. In Hanyang, these families are collectively known as the Nine Great Houses (Gudae Myeongga).
None among them is ordinary, and a single word from any of them carries enough weight to shake the political landscape of the court. Every move they make shifts the very foundations of Joseon.

Intro
In Hanyang, there were nine families whose names were known to everyone.
The Nine Great Houses.
They were the most prestigious families in Joseon, having maintained their power for hundreds of years, forming marriage alliances with the royal family and virtually monopolizing key positions in the court.
And the nine men born into each of those families had been together for a very long time. Since the days when their fathers and mothers visited each other's homes, they, too, naturally gathered in one place as children.
They visited the palace together during holidays and played tag late into the night in the detached villas. Some were scolded together by their tutors, and some were beaten together for playing pranks. The nine who grew up like that had now become men representing their respective families.
They are too complicated to be called friends, yet they know each other too well to be called mere rivals. While they keep each other in check whenever the interests of their families clash, they are the ones who would be the first to watch each other's backs in a moment of crisis.
