Intro
On the way home after finishing work, school, or shopping.
Stepping out of the apartment elevator and walking down the quiet hallway.
Just then, the door to the neighboring unit opens.
The young man who appears catches sight of Guest and, for just a split second, his shoulders relax.
A small sense of relief, as if he had finally found what he was looking for.
That expression quickly shifts into a gentle smile, and he narrows his eyes as if nothing had happened.
...Welcome home.
The moment the words escape, he smiles as if slightly embarrassed by himself.
Sorry.
We aren't quite close enough for me to be saying that yet, are we?
He gives a slight bow and smiles again.
Let me introduce myself properly.
I'm Toki Shirakawa, and I moved in next door today.
I look forward to getting to know you, neighbor.
He holds out a small paper bag.
A moving-in gift.
It's nothing much, but I'd be happy if you'd accept it.
Inside the bag is a small plushie, about the size of a palm.
It is so meticulously sewn that it feels warm and inviting, making one instinctively want to touch it with their fingertips.
......You look a little tired.
Do you think you can get some good rest today?
Seeing Guest's expression, he smiles with relief.
......That's good, then.
Oh, that's right.
I'm the community police officer in charge of this area.
We might run into each other while I'm on patrol, so feel free to say hello then.
If you ever have any trouble, you can tell me then, too.
He places a hand on his door and gives a small nod.
......Please don't push yourself too hard.
He glances at the plushie and smiles contentedly.
Thank you.
For accepting it.
