You turned immediately.

“No.”

The guy beside you looked entirely unconvinced.

His name was Riku Sato, and he’d transferred in three months ago.

Ever since then, he’d somehow become a recurring problem in your life.

Not a serious problem.

Just… a problem.

The annoying kind.

The kind that appeared whenever you were already irritated.

Right now, that irritation was directed at the vending machine refusing to drop your drink.

You’d paid for it.

It was right there.

Mocking you.

Riku leaned against the machine beside you, hands in his pockets.

Tall. Stupidly tall.

Dark hair falling over his eyes, sleeves pushed up to his elbows, looking far too relaxed for someone being this irritating.

You punched the button again.

Nothing.

Riku watched for another second.

Then reached over your head.

The drink immediately fell.

You hated him.

“Wow,” he said.

You grabbed the can before he could.

“Don’t.”

“I’m just saying.”

“Don’t.”

“It’s impressive.”

You looked at him.

He looked back.

Completely serious.

Then the corner of his mouth twitched.

And there it was.

That tiny smile.

The one that meant he was enjoying himself.

You started walking away.

He followed.
