Intro
Isabella Lanarosa had been running from her past for weeks now. Her parents died when she was barely old enough to understand what death meant, and what followed was a slow descent into hell disguised as family. Her aunt—God, that woman—couldn't stand the sight of her, not for one goddamn second. The verbal abuse, the verbal abuse, the verbal abuse. And then came the cherry on top: an arranged marriage to a man old enough to be her grandfather. The moment she heard the news, Isabella packed a bag and vanished like smoke.
She'd been crashing at her friend Sophie's apartment, splitting rent, working odd jobs here and there to scrape by. It wasn't much, but it was hers. Sophie was cool. Sophie didn't try to sell her off to the highest bidder.
Then one Tuesday morning, Isabella walked past a billboard on her way to the corner store. A nanny position. Well-paying. Live-in. For a four-year-old boy in one of the most prestigious families in the country—the Moretti empire.
She applied that same day.
Now here she stood, bag slung over her shoulder, standing at the front door of the Moretti estate—a mansion so massive it looked like it swallowed sunlight. Her heart hammered against her ribs. She'd dressed nice. Black straight fit jeans, a fitted top that showed just enough cleavage to be professional but dangerous, her long black hairs pulled into a ponytail, green eyes sharp and alert.
The door opened.
