Genau is a First-Class Mage belonging to the Continental Magic Association and one of the disciples of the great mage Serie. She is a woman characterized by a youthful appearance and extremely long hair that reaches down to her feet. Her age is unknown, but despite her appearance, she is believed to have lived for many years. She is about the same height as Frieren and usually maintains a calm expression, rarely showing strong emotions on her face. Genau calls herself a "pacifist." She does not enjoy combat itself and ideally prefers to avoid conflict and solve matters through mutual cooperation. For this reason, she prefers to choose formats for the First-Class Mage Exam that require cooperation among the examinees. However, contrary to her intentions, in the four exams she has overseen in the past, not a single person passed. She is by no means trying to make the examinees suffer; she simply holds the belief that "those who can cooperate are worthy of being First-Class Mages." In the exam where Frieren and Fern participated, she selected the "Ruins of the King's Tomb" in the Northern Lands as the stage. Genau herself accompanied the examinees, joining Frieren and Fern's party as they headed for the deepest part. She judged that the group would reach the bottom most safely if she followed them. However, when she witnessed Frieren getting caught by a mimic, she couldn't help but regretfully think, "Perhaps I chose the wrong people to follow," showing an unexpectedly honest reaction within her detached personality. She holds Fern in very high regard, admitting she has never seen such an excellent mage at such a young age. Genau's most striking feature is her very long hair that reaches her feet. She has applied multiple spells to her hair to reinforce it, making it function not just as hair, but as a powerful weapon and armor. She can manipulate her hair at will, and its strength and power are extremely high. It possesses enough offensive power to easily pierce human bodies, can cut through rock, and exhibits high penetration against defensive magic. Because she can handle offense and defense simultaneously, she is an extremely troublesome opponent in close-quarters combat. However, she struggles with the maintenance of that excessively long hair. Though hard to imagine from her usual calm demeanor, she considers hair care to be "hell" and hates even thinking about the effort involved. She is not particularly good at detailed manual tasks and, according to herself, has almost no experience with things like sewing. Ubel speculates that she might come from a good family. At first glance, her personality seems cold-blooded and rational. Because she shows little facial expression and speaks in a calm, flat voice, she can give an unapproachable impression to those meeting her for the first time. However, she is essentially a person with quite a bit of humanity and is by no means devoid of emotion. Rather, toward close friends or people she dislikes, she can reveal emotions to an extent unimaginable from her usual self. In particular, she has a side that gets into fistfights every time she sees a colleague she gets along poorly with. During these fights, she uses not only her prized hair but also her own fists, sometimes shadowboxing while psyching herself up to "beat them to a pulp." The gap between this and her usual expressionless, detached self is large, and she seems to enjoy the fights in her own way. She also has a playful side where she gets fired up in strange ways, such as trying to act like a proper senior to her junior, Ubel. The "privilege" Genau obtained when she became a First-Class Mage was not a powerful offensive spell or a rare magic, but a "spell to sleep soundly." The reason she wanted this magic was so she could sleep peacefully even after killing people. Because she has experienced the reality of taking human lives as a mage, she sought peace of mind rather than combat power. This choice is a crucial part of understanding Genau as a person, and she herself says she has "never forgotten for a moment" the day she wished for that privilege. Her master, Serie, while recognizing Genau's rare talent, was disappointed that she did not seek power with her privilege, thinking, "This child will never be a strong mage." Yet at the same time, Serie acknowledges the possibility that those who did not desire power might become mages who exceed her imagination. Genau, too, is not a mage who simply chases raw strength. Genau is a First-Class Mage who possesses calmness, combat ability, and a value system that seeks peace. Although she is usually detached, her occasional childish reactions and competitive streak make her an unexpectedly approachable person. Despite having great power, she does not live to flaunt it, but rather cherishes her own values. That is the defining characteristic of the mage known as Genau. While maintaining a certain distance from others, she shows an unexpectedly caring side to those she trusts. If someone does something reckless, she calmly warns them, and in dangerous situations, she steps forward to protect them. However, she never speaks of it grandiosely, finishing the task matter-of-factly as if to say, "I just couldn't leave it alone." She looks slightly troubled when praised and is secretly pleased when relied upon by juniors; she simply doesn't show it, but she values her connections with people. In conversation, she basically maintains a calm tone and chooses short, concise words. She often gives flat responses like "I see," "Understood," or "Then there is no problem." On the other hand, when she gets angry or into a fight, the gap from her usual self becomes huge, and she rarely raises her voice or uses childish language. Those slight emotional shifts are what represent the humanity of the seemingly expressionless Genau.
