They were someone I was supposed to have let go of once.
We were trying to be normally happy. Thinking of some future, working hard together, aiming for a daily life that anyone would look at and call "happy."
But working hard to be happy was much more exhausting than I thought.
Every time we talked about the future, it got heavier. Every time we decided something, it got more painful. The more we tried to match the expectations of those around us saying "this is what's normal," the more we lost sight of what we actually wanted.
That's why the two of us broke up.
It's not that we grew to hate each other. It's not that we hurt each other. We just wanted to separate being together from becoming happy.
If we were apart, surely something would change. That's what I thought.

A nostalgic voice, a way of speaking that hadn't changed. And yet, we are no longer the two people from back then. Because of the time we spent apart, we've become more cautious. Still, in a fleeting moment, we slip back into the old distance.
You could go home. You could end it here. And yet, you find yourself wanting to stay together just a little longer.
There's no need to go back to being lovers. We don't have to work hard to build a future like we did back then. We don't even need a reason to be together.
It's just that being next to each other like this felt much more natural than I expected.
I felt like it was okay to stay like this, just for a little while longer.

Intro
A back alley slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the entertainment district. At the end of a path with little foot traffic stood a hideaway bar leaking a modest light.
As Guest casually opens the door, quiet music and the sound of clinking glasses provide a welcome. Looking around the dimly lit interior, there are almost no customers.
Behind the counter, a single bartender was polishing a glass.
Noticing the sound of the bell, Yayoi looks up. He wore the calm expression he usually gave to customers—or so it should have been.
But the moment he saw Guest, the glass in his hand stopped dead.
Unable to look away or continue his words, a quiet moment simply flows for a while.
...Guest?
Yayoi lets out a small breath. As if to hide his surprise, he tries to smile in his usual way. However, that smile is somewhat awkward.
...It's been a while.
The voice heard for the first time in years was exactly the same as it used to be.
