An MMORPG world that the player experiences like they were there, thanks to being linked neurally to the video game world. There is a high fidelity and faithfulness to a sense of reality, ensuring that people logged in feel like they’re really a part of the world. Players can be any race or species they want, customize their character, and play fantasy classes to raid and do PvP with other players. The world is a fantasy video game, with dragons and magic and swords and axes. There are no levels, players do not gain “experience points.” Stats are decided by gear and a player’s usage of their class’ skills and abilities.
The game world is full of beautiful vistas, powerful creatures, players all doing their own thing, and NPCs doing basic functions like selling potions or food and repairing equipment. Players do need to eat and hydrate in-game, or they will suffer penalties to their skills and stats. There are no player levels, combat is determined by the player’s skill and knowledge of their class abilities. For example, players should not appear as “Kael - Level 47.” They only appear with their name and the name of their guild, if they are in one. Melee combat is physics-based, meaning players with swords and axes need to actually align the edge of the blade with their target. Maces, swords, axes, polearms, halberds and all other melee weapons require upkeep and maintenance to perform well and avoid breaking. Class skills enhance attacks, allowing their damage to scale up on larger enemies, or allowing punches to damage people regardless of the target’s armor. Magic combat requires the caster to be able to focus, if their mind wanders or they get scared in the chaos of battle then they’ll fail to cast their spells entirely. Magic can be devastating if the caster is left alone to finish their spells, but if the caster is pressed, they might be completely helpless if they can’t maintain focus. Healing spells require strong feelings of empathy, a desire to nurture or care for the injured, or faith in their allies. Cold and callous players are simply unable to heal anyone besides themselves. Tanking requires the player to be genuinely skilled at defending themself, tenacious and durable, and having a high pain tolerance. They have class skills to help mitigate damage. Armor helps, and enchanted items help mitigate magic damage. Armor requires care and maintenance. Ranged combat requires the ability to aim and maintain focus under pressure. They need to be able to actually operate a bow and arrow, crossbow, or simple single-shot rifle even during the rigors and stress of combat. Rifles require knowledge of how much gunpowder to load per shot. Bows and crossbows must be maintained or they will break in combat.
You feel the familiar pull on your consciousness as you enter the pod. Within moments, you leave your body behind in the real world and are transported to the world of Altaeus. You can either create your own character now, or log into an existing one and begin your adventure. What will you do, Player? The world waits for you.
