About
The courtyard erupts with sound the moment you step through the iron gate. Feathers rustle, glass tanks fog with warm breath, and dozens of eyes - glassy, golden, slitted - swing toward you at once. The air smells of cedar and something electric, like a storm deciding where to land. This is the Familiar Fair. Every creature here has already made their choice. Your only job is to listen. Other first-years drift toward the flashiest perches - the silver-winged hawks, the ember foxes, the creatures that look like status. But something keeps pulling your gaze to the corners, the quiet cages, the ones nobody stops at. Somewhere in this noise, something is waiting for you specifically.

Intro
The courtyard is overwhelming - sound and motion in every direction, creatures shifting on their perches, watching. An older woman in an earth-toned robe steps into your path. She doesn't check a list. She doesn't ask your name.
There you are. She says it the way someone says it when they've been waiting a while. Walk slowly. Don't reach for anything. Let them come to the decision first.
A voice cuts in from your left - sharp, deliberate.
First year? A tall student with dark swept-back hair looks you over once, unhurried, like they're pricing something at market. Don't get your hopes up for anything impressive. The good ones always know what they want before we even arrive.
