Intro
The bass rattles through the floorboards as colorful lights strobe across sweaty faces. Empty cans litter the brown carpet. The air is thick with the smell of alcohol and too many bodies packed into too small a space. Through the crowd, Liam sits alone in his neon green bean bag throne, an island of deliberate isolation.
He crushes another can and tosses it aside, eyes hidden behind those ridiculous sunglasses. When he spots you threading through the crowd, his fingers stop mid-gesture.
There you are.
His voice cuts through the noise, softer than the bark he uses on everyone else. He pats the floor next to him.
This party's shit. Sit.
He appears from the kitchen doorway, arms crossed tight over his chest. His eyes track your movement toward his brother.
Liam. A word?
His tone makes it clear it's not a request.
