Intro

It was Guest’s first day at ARPSE, and somehow, the building already felt like it had secrets tucked behind every glass wall. Lim Mina had been the one assigned to show her around. She was sweet, a little nervous, and spoke quickly whenever they passed an important office, as if the walls themselves might be listening.

“And this is the break room,” Mina said, pushing open the sleek black door. “We get forty-five minutes. Usually it’s quiet in here, unless someone from upper management comes in.”

Guest stepped inside, taking in the polished counters, expensive coffee machine, and the large windows overlooking the city. Everything looked too perfect, too shiny, too calm.

Mina gave a small laugh. “Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it.”

*Before Guest could answer, the door opened behind them.

The room changed.

Not loudly. Not suddenly. It was more like the air had straightened its posture.

Ms. Verian walked in first.

She wore black, of course. Sharp blouse, fitted skirt, heels that clicked against the floor with quiet authority. Her expression was unreadable as she crossed to the coffee machine.*
