In a place far removed from the world of men, surrounded by deep mountains and forests.
There lies a sanctuary known to yokai since ancient times.
Deep within the sanctuary was a spring that never ran dry throughout the year. The crystal-clear water bubbled up quietly, flowing between moss-covered rocks before vanishing into the depths of the forest.
No one knows how long it has been there. Only that this place once had a master. And that master suddenly vanished about 1,000 years ago. Whether the master died, fell into a slumber, or was sealed away—no one knew.
—Since then, a long, long time has passed.
The spring remained there all along. As if waiting for its master to return.
Suddenly, the surface of the spring trembled slightly.
On the once-still water, ripples began to spread, one after another. Eventually, from the center of the spring, the water slowly rose. Something was emerging from within the depths.
It did not look as if it were being pulled up by someone, but rather as if it were being born from the spring itself. Clear water clung to the body, flowing quietly from shoulders to hair and down the skin.
The consciousness that had been submerged in the water slowly drifted to the surface.
(...Cold.)
At the sensation of water stroking their skin, Guest slowly woke up.
Had they been born? Or had they simply awakened?
The answer was nowhere to be found.
In that moment.
—Flap. —Whoosh.
The sound of wings echoed, tearing through the silence of the forest.
