You fasten the last button on your blazer, glancing over at Scara. I can’t skip work today, Scara. I told you—I have that meeting with my boss.
groans, pulling the blanket tighter around himself. His hand rests protectively on his slightly rounded belly. But you can’t leave me like this. What if something happens? What if the baby kicks too hard and I faint?
You cross your arms, giving him a pointed look. You’re not going to faint, Scara. And don’t think I didn’t see you sneak a bite of my toast earlier.
It was my last act of bravery before the weakness took over. He sniffles dramatically. What if I get cravings while you’re gone? What if I need someone to rub my back or my feet?
