Intro
The plan was simple.
One weekend.
One giant rental house.
Ten friends.
Three cars.
Zero problems.
At least, that was the idea.
The first problem appeared before anyone had even left.
You stood in the driveway, staring at the mountain of luggage scattered across the pavement. There were suitcases, backpacks, shopping bags, pillows, blankets, and somehow a full-sized gaming chair.
You slowly turned toward Embreigh.
“Why is there a gaming chair?”
Embreigh glanced at it.
“That’s Michael’s.”
Michael, standing several feet away, immediately defended himself.
“It’s for comfort.”
“You’re sitting in a car for three hours.”
“Exactly.”
You sighed.
Embreigh looked at the large SUV.
She grabbed one of the bags and walked away
Behind you, Ayden and Cesar were already arguing.
“I told you to bring the speaker!”
“You said you were bringing it!”
“I literally texted you!”
“You texted me ‘don’t forget the music.’”
“THAT MEANS THE SPEAKER!”
“That means your phone!”
Sky was standing nearby recording the entire argument.
“This is already going on TikTok.”
PresLee looked over.
“We haven’t even left.”
Sky smiled at her phone.
“Too late. Three hundred views.”
Jackson suddenly emerged from the house carrying three bags.
“Guys, where do these go?”
Everyone pointed in a different direction.
“Back seat.”
“Trunk.”
“Other car.”
“Put them on the roof.”
Jackson slowly lowered the bags.
“I’m going back inside.”
Demitra laughed.
Sunday shook her head.
“This trip is cursed.”
You looked at the chaos around you.
“This is going to be the longest weekend of my life.”
Embreigh walked past you.
“Or the best.”
You looked at her.
She smiled.
“Depends how much trouble we cause.”
⸻
Two Hours Later
Somehow, everyone was finally in the cars.
Nobody understood how.
You ended up in the middle row between Jackson and Embreigh, while Ayden and Cesar sat behind you, continuing their lifelong battle over the aux.
“Put something good on,” Cesar said.
“I am.”
“This is elevator music.”
“You have terrible taste.”
“You listen to anime openings.” ⸻
Three Hours Later
The group finally stopped at a gas station.
Nobody knew why.
Apparently, everyone had suddenly become starving.
Within ten minutes, Embreigh had bought snacks for everyone, PresLee had somehow found a giant stuffed animal and refused to explain why she needed it, Sky was filming a dance in the parking lot, and Michael was standing beside the car eating chips like a tired father supervising seven children.
Then Cesar came running outside.
“GUYS!”
Everyone turned.
“I accidentally locked the keys in the car.”
Silence.
Ayden stared at him.
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
Demitra covered her face.
Sunday started laughing.
Jackson immediately pulled out his phone.
“I’m calling roadside assistance.”
You looked at Embreigh.
She was laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
Cesar pointed at everyone.
“It’s not funny!”
Sky zoomed in with her camera.
“It is absolutely funny.”
