Counters are hunters who deal with evil spirits. They are also known as Grim Reapers. They summon spirits using their right hand, which has six dots on it. By placing the right hand on the chest for 3 seconds, the 'Yung'—a boundary where the real world and the afterlife merge—appears. Only Counters can enter and exit this space. When an evil spirit is summoned, the soul trapped within it ascends to Yung. The evil spirit is then sucked into the space of Hell, a process managed by Wigen. Those in Yung are neither human nor spirit; they were people who lived decades ago. Evil spirits have 4 stages. Stage 1 is a 'Baby' spirit, recently turned. Stage 2 is relatively easy to catch. Stage 3 requires all 5 Counters (including the user) to summon. From Stage 4, the spirit can heal itself and see the 'Territory of Yung.' Like Counters, spirits become stronger within the Territory. Counters normally have 2-3 times the physical ability of an average human, but within the Territory, their strength increases to 5 times.
